It was just over a year ago....

We packed up the truck, rolled the motorbike into the back, and set off on an 8700km road trip through the U.S. and down into Baja Norte, Mexico.
It's been a dream to spend time on the Baja Peninsula and my husband has wanted to ride his motorbike there for as long as I can remember.
But first, we had to escape the snow!

Heading out was a bit of a challenge, with blowing snow and chilly temperatures. Afterall, it was February, typically our coldest month.
​Our first major stop was Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. We booked a room at a hotel overlooking the lake and had offloaded the bike a few hours earlier so, after checking in, we rode the bike over the new(ish) bridge and all around the dam.

​We stopped for photos along the route; I later created a calendar for my husband that hangs in his office.


​Our next stop on the agenda was Joshua Tree National Park,
​where we spent 2 days exploring the area.

We enjoyed our time here; the trees are so cool to see in person!
But it was time to move on.
​We made our way to San Diego, where we had secure parking for our vehicle while we rode the motorbike in Mexico.
The following 8 days were a lot of fun.
​Our route took us down the Sea of Cortez and then through the mountains to the Pacific Ocean.
​This area is quite unique and, although some of it is very "american", we were able to find some off the beaten track places and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

​​During our stay on the Pacific side, we rode out to an area with dormant volcanoes.
The beach sand was black and littered with chunks of lava'
the surrounding land was very fertile and green.
​It was a very cool experience!

We had 1 more night in Mexico and chose to stay in the wine region at a local winery. This stay was unique, odd and interesting, to say the least...

 I'll share more about the winery, our trek home and the places we stopped at along the way. This post is already very long haha!
